LED vs Halogen Headlights: Which Should You Choose?
Halogen bulbs have been the default for decades, while LED bulbs are now a popular upgrade. Both work, so the question is which tradeoffs suit you.
Brightness and color
LED bulbs usually produce more light with a whiter color, often around 6000K. Halogens have a warmer, yellower tone. A brighter bulb only helps if the beam pattern stays focused on the road instead of scattering toward other drivers.
Lifespan and efficiency
LEDs generally last much longer than halogens and draw less power. Halogens are cheap to replace, but they dim and burn out sooner.
Fitment and legality
Check the bulb size your vehicle uses, such as H11 or 9005, and make sure an LED bulb has enough room for its cooling base. Headlight housings designed for halogen bulbs can behave differently with LEDs, so choose well-designed bulbs, aim your lights correctly and follow your state's lighting rules.
