How to Choose the Right Brake Pads
Brake pads are a wear item, and the right set depends on your vehicle, your driving and your budget. Here is how the main types compare so you can pick with confidence.
Ceramic pads
Ceramic pads are quiet, produce little visible dust and wear rotors gently. They suit most daily drivers and commuter cars. They can be less aggressive when cold and are not the first choice for heavy towing.
Semi-metallic pads
Semi-metallic pads contain metal fibers that handle heat well and give a firm pedal. They are common on trucks and SUVs, and on vehicles that tow or carry loads. Expect a little more noise and dust than ceramic.
Organic pads
Organic pads are soft, quiet and inexpensive, but they wear faster and fade sooner under heavy use. They fit light-duty driving best.
Before you order
Always confirm fitment by vehicle year, make, model and trim, and replace pads in axle sets. If rotors are scored or below minimum thickness, replace them at the same time. When in doubt, have a qualified technician inspect your brakes.
